She could never have predicted that the biggest fight of her life would be for her country.

She has a dream of a Kenya united beyond tribal and political lines.

The fight is hard and frustrating, even for her. The weight of meeting people’s expectations can be jarring. She can’t always be strong.

Some days all she wants is the frailty of her humanity to be acknowledged.”

Meet Achieng Owira, Nairobi-based visual artist and storyteller. She believes her paintings are a reflection of all the women she has been and hopes to become.
